National Grid Collapses for 12th Time in 2024

Nigerians were once again plunged into darkness on Wednesday following yet another collapse of the national power grid. This marks the 12th collapse of the grid in 2024, with 11 previous failures recorded between January and November.

The national power grid experienced a particularly challenging period in October, when it collapsed three times within a single week, causing widespread blackouts and sparking outrage among Nigerians.

The collapse on Wednesday occurred at approximately 2:09 pm, as confirmed by a tweet from the official National Grid Twitter handle. This latest failure highlights the ongoing issues with Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, with the grid’s collapse now a historic 12th occurrence this year.

The frequent power outages have raised growing concerns among citizens, with many calling for urgent reforms to stabilize the country’s energy sector.
