MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, discusses the MTN-Glo interconnect debt issue in an interview with Arise TV, highlighting the company’s commitment to professionalism, compliance, and collaboration with regulatory bodies.
In response to the long-standing interconnection debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Globacom Limited, Toriola acknowledged the involvement of regulatory bodies, particularly the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He emphasized that MTN will adhere to the directives provided by the NCC in addressing the dispute, emphasizing the company’s commitment to professionalism and compliance with licensing conditions.

The NCC, on January 8, 2024, had published a pre-disconnection notice, granting MTN approval to commence the phased disconnection of Glo with effect from January 18, 2024. However, the disconnection was put on hold to allow for further resolution of the issues.
Toriola reassured that MTN would act in the most professional and compliant manner, ensuring that all actions align with regulatory authorizations and licensing conditions. The company remains engaged in discussions to resolve the interconnect debt issue in collaboration with the relevant regulatory bodies.

Regarding the company’s position in the industry, Toriola reiterated MTN Nigeria’s status as a solely Nigerian company, registered and led by Nigerian shareholders.
