It was a night of glitz and celebration as renowned legal luminary and human rights activist, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, received the 2024 Midwest Herald “Defender of Democracy Award” at the prestigious Midwest Herald Achievers Award ceremony in Benin City, Edo State. The event, held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, was themed “Legends and Heroes.”
As part of the ceremony, Ozekhome also delivered the keynote address titled, “Has Democracy Led to Good Governance in Nigeria?” The gathering featured notable dignitaries, including former Minister of State for Budgetary Matters, Prince Clement Agba; the Oloni of Eti-Oni, HRM Oba Domun Thompson Gureje IV, and his wife, Queen Angelique-Monet Gureje Thompson.
Also present were the publisher of Midwest Herald, journalist and political activist Orobosa Omo-Ojo, alongside his daughter, Dr. Owen Omo-Ojo, who serves as the Director of Organization for the Midwest Achievers Award.
The event recognized outstanding individuals for their contributions to society, with Ozekhome celebrated for his unwavering commitment to democracy and human rights advocacy.
