The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) leadership expresses enthusiasm for Nigeria’s notable accomplishments at the ongoing International Telecommunications Union (ITU)’s World Radio Communications (WRC) Conference 2023 in Dubai, UAE. Two Nigerians secured leadership positions, and additional NCC delegates were elected into Working Groups.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, announced the election of Engineer Abraham Oshadami as Vice Chairman of ITU’s Radiocommunication Advisory Group (RAG) and Dr. Lasisi Salami Lawal as Vice Chairman of the ITU-R Study Group Four (Satellite Services). Other NCC delegates joined Working Groups.

 

Maida commended Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, for his guidance and leadership during Nigeria’s delegation to WRC 2023. The WRC Conference focuses on global collaboration to determine the use of finite spectrum resources crucial for daily technologies.

 

Maida expressed joy over the election results, highlighting the positive impact on Nigeria’s global standing in the telecom sector. He emphasized the alignment of Nigeria’s interests and goals with global best practices and the National Broadband Plan.

He urged the elected delegates to meet global expectations and acknowledged the minister’s presence as a significant boost to the delegation, showcasing the Federal Government’s commitment to WRC-23 participation.

 

Maida engaged with ITU and other global telecom leaders during the event, discussing the Commission’s vision, priorities, potential collaborations, and increased Nigerian participation in ITU and ATU. Meetings included interactions with ITU Secretary General, African Telecommunications Union Secretary General, and directors of ITU.

 

Additionally, Maida met with the Director General of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority in the UAE, sharing insights on effective regulation.
