In a bid to empower women in Northern Nigeria, a new initiative was launched today, introducing the AI for Beginners Learning Video Series in collaboration with Google, the Kaduna State Government, and Data Science Nigeria. This series, presented in Hausa, aims to make Artificial Intelligence concepts more accessible and culturally relevant for the region.
Addressing challenges such as socio-cultural dynamics, infrastructural limitations, and language barriers, the initiative utilizes engaging animations and culturally relevant imagery to make complex digital concepts easier to understand. The launch event, graced by His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, emphasized the government’s commitment to digital transformation and economic growth.

Governor Uba Sani highlighted the importance of equipping people, especially women, with AI skills to foster innovation and drive economic prosperity. Google West Africa’s Director emphasized the significance of making learning resources available in local languages to empower more people, marking a milestone in enhancing AI knowledge across Northern Nigeria.
Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, CEO/Founder of Data Science Nigeria, emphasized the role of AI in unlocking opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact, particularly among women, who are seen as the future leaders and innovators of Northern Nigeria.
The event received support from representatives of NITDA and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, highlighting the national significance of the initiative. The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series is now accessible on various platforms, including YouTube, the NITDA education portal, and through USB drives distributed across primary and secondary schools in Kaduna State.
