IXPN Unveils 2024 Strategic Plans for Growth and Expansion

Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) reveals strategic agenda for 2024, emphasizing expansion efforts and improved services, with a focus on connecting service providers nationwide and attracting more content providers.

During a Membership Engagement Forum held in Lagos, IXPN CEO Mr. Muhammed Rudman outlined the exchange’s plans to establish additional exchange points in various states across Nigeria, aiming to connect service providers and higher educational institutions to complement the National Research and Educational Network (NGREN). Additionally, IXPN aims to attract more content providers into the country to enhance its offerings.

The exchange also intends to set up Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)/Caches in regional IXPN POPs, provide VLAN services within Lagos, enable remote peering, and upgrade its links and switches to increase capacity, scalability, performance, and reduce latency.

These initiatives follow a series of milestones achieved in 2023, including the successful implementation of Netflix Open Connect Appliance (OCA) in Lagos and Abuja, aimed at improving Netflix content delivery and enhancing user experience. IXPN recorded a peak local Internet traffic of 570Gbps in 2023, with plans to reach 1 terabyte by the end of 2024, reflecting the consistent growth in internet traffic.

IXPN’s ambitious growth plans for 2024 underscore its commitment to facilitating seamless internet connectivity, fostering innovation, and supporting the evolving needs of its members and stakeholders in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
