The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internet infrastructure by outlining key achievements and future initiatives at its annual Members’ Engagement Forum in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, IXPN’s Chief Executive Officer, Muhammed Rudman, highlighted the organization’s role in enhancing local internet traffic exchange, reducing costs, and improving connectivity nationwide. He emphasized that the forum provides a vital platform for collaboration, allowing stakeholders to assess progress, address challenges, and discuss the future of internet interconnectivity in Nigeria.
Rudman noted IXPN’s major milestones in 2024, including its recognition as a MANRS-compliant Internet Exchange Point, underscoring its commitment to secure and reliable internet routing. Additionally, the organization completed multiple link upgrades between key Points of Presence (PoPs), such as Digital Realty (Medallion) to Equinix (MDXi), Rack Centre, and ADC, significantly boosting capacity. The deployment of Microsoft Connected Cache was also a noteworthy achievement, helping reduce latency and optimize bandwidth utilization for Microsoft’s static content.

These initiatives aim to enhance Nigeria’s digital ecosystem by fostering better interconnectivity and seamless internet exchange.
Currently, IXPN has 125 members and operates seven PoPs in Lagos, including ICNL, Medallion, Rack Centre, MDXi, ADC, OADC, and Cloud Exchange, with additional PoPs in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, Delta, and Gombe. The exchange also manages a peak aggregate traffic of 900 Gbps, reinforcing its status as a critical infrastructure for Nigeria’s digital economy.
With its 2025 roadmap, IXPN is set to play an even greater role in promoting local content creation, improving internet service delivery, and advancing Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global digital space.
