In a heartfelt display of inclusivity and support, Hon. Kafilat Adetola Ogbara, Member of the House of Representatives for Kosofe Federal Constituency and Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, organized a special Valentine’s Day outreach dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities.
The event, held at Funplex Event Centre, CMD Road, Magodo, Ikosi Ketu, Lagos, was spearheaded by the Ogbara Kafilat Foundation. It provided essential support, mobility aids, and financial assistance to individuals with disabilities, including the visually impaired, physically challenged, and members of the albino community. Beneficiaries received wheelchairs, crutches, white canes, and other assistive devices to improve their mobility and independence. Additionally, cash grants were distributed to help with personal and entrepreneurial growth.
Dignitaries in attendance included traditional rulers, community leaders, and APC chieftains, who lauded Hon. Ogbara’s dedication to social development and inclusivity. The initiative was recognized as a commendable effort in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the need to uplift vulnerable groups and foster sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ogbara underscored the importance of creating opportunities and amplifying the voices of persons with disabilities.
“The time to give persons with disabilities the opportunities and recognition they deserve is now. This is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of all stakeholders. Inclusivity should not be just an idea but a reality embedded in our governance, policies, and daily interactions,” she stated.
The program featured music, drama, engaging discussions, and a documentary showcasing Hon. Ogbara’s ongoing advocacy for persons with disabilities. She reaffirmed her commitment to pushing for their inclusion in governance and government employment, stressing that no one should be marginalized in the nation’s development journey.
More than just a celebration, the Valentine’s Day empowerment event symbolized purposeful leadership, social responsibility, and a firm commitment to inclusivity. Beneficiaries left with renewed hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging, reinforcing the impact of compassionate and proactive leadership in driving meaningful change.
