Lagos, Nigeria – April 30, 2025
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced a revision of its SMS alert charges, with the new rate set at ₦6 per message, up from the previous ₦4. The updated fee structure will take effect on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
In a message sent to customers on Wednesday, the bank cited rising telecommunications service costs as the primary reason for the adjustment.
“Dear valued customer, please be informed that effective Thursday, May 1, 2025, the SMS transaction alert fee will increase from ₦4 to ₦6 per message,” the notice read.
GTBank emphasized the importance of SMS alerts, stating that they play a critical role in account monitoring and fraud prevention.
“Kindly note that transaction alerts are important and help you keep track and stay in control of activities on your account,” the bank stated.
Acknowledging that some customers may prefer alternative communication channels, the bank also provided an option to opt out of SMS notifications. Customers who wish to stop receiving SMS alerts can do so by updating their preferences through a transaction alert form available on the bank’s website. Completed forms are to be submitted via email to gtbankmailsupport@gtbank.com.
