Globacom Limited, owned by Nigerian billionaire Mike Adenuga, has signed a network expansion agreement with Ceragon Networks in order to establish 5G in the country

Globacom Limited (Glo) has reached an agreement with Ceragon Networks Limited, an Israeli network equipment supplier, to expand its nationwide broadband coverage in Nigeria.

Ceragon will provide Globacom with a customised solution that covers long-haul rural areas, high-capacity metro, and the access network as part of this multimillion-dollar deal, allowing it to not only improve the quality of experience for its existing subscribers, but also expand its reach to further grow its market share. The project began in Q4 2021 and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2022.

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Nigerian international telecoms business owned by Nigerian billionaire Mike Adenuga is the second-largest telecom services operator in Nigeria, with a 28.09 percent market share as of December 2021. Despite the fact that the two corporations did not reveal the financial terms of the arrangement, experts believe the price will remain “arm’s length.”

Globacom Limited can be confident that its network will be ready for 5G, according to Doron Arazi, CEO of Ceragon Networks. Ceragon Networks’ solutions will provide Globacom with a 10-gigabit-per-second (Gbps) network capacity over the air, with the ability to upgrade to 20 Gbps if necessary.

“This capacity will strengthen the rural long-distance network, as well as high-capacity urban networks and the access network,” he stated.

Glo’s strategic expansion ambitions include building Africa’s largest and best telecoms network and providing superior telecommunications services to its clients.

“We feel that our collaboration with Ceragon will aid us in our goal of constructing the most reliable and innovative telecommunications network possible.” Ceragon’s field-proven solutions and services enable us to rapidly and reliably scale up our 4G and future 5G network and capacity requirements while lowering our overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO),” Globacom said.
