FG Open Applications for 4IR Technologies to Optimize Economy

The Federal Government has officially opened applications for the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies (4IRTA) on Monday, aiming to enhance Nigeria’s economy through technological advancements.

 

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared in a statement the government’s commitment to promoting the use of technology, especially Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as UAV, IoT, AI, and Blockchain, to optimize various sectors of the economy.

Tijani announced the launch of the first 4IRTA initiative, the Agriculture Demonstration Project, which focuses on identifying and mainstreaming market-ready innovations utilizing 4IR technologies to improve productivity and sustainability in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

 

These projects will serve as pilots to demonstrate the successful implementation of these technologies in Nigeria. Selected projects will receive funding of up to N10,000,000 to deepen the application of 4IR technologies in their operations.

 

The Ministry of Agriculture will offer support to selected pilot farms, helping them navigate a path to scale and sustainability.

Applications are currently open at https://4irta.nitda.gov.ng and will continue until Thursday, December 7, 2023.

 

Dr. Tijani emphasized the critical role of improved connectivity for Nigerians as a fundamental infrastructure for economic growth. He highlighted ongoing efforts to learn from global policy tools and financing models that can connect the unserved and underserved populations.

 

He mentioned his participation in a working group convened by the UN Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, Smart Africa, and other partners, focusing on developing the right funding model to finance broadband connectivity. This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s infrastructure pillar’s key outcome of bridging the digital divide.
