With the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s reconstruction nearing completion, the Federal Government is requesting the cooperation and comprehension of drivers due to the heavy traffic on the Toll Gate to Kara Bridge section in Lagos.
In a Press Release issued by his Special Adviser on Communications, Mr. Hakeem Bello, the Honorable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, expressed empathy towards the public who have had to endure extended periods of traffic due to the ongoing reconstruction work in the densely populated area as it moves closer to completion and explains that the intensity of work and the high volume of traffic which had to be accommodated at the same time have been complicated by impatience on the part of some motorists who drive against the planned traffic flow and breakdown of vehicles.
The Minister emphasized that the contractors are being urged to complete the final and challenging phase of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction work as soon as possible. He however notes that the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing is working with the Lagos State Government, all traffic management and security agencies to minimize the discomfort of motorists.
Although the previously proposed date of April 30 for concluding the final stretch was not achieved due to various factors, work in the OPIC area between Kara Bridge and the Long Bridge has been completed and will be accessible to traffic from Sunday, April 30. This means that the primary carriageway, in both directions, from Berger (New Garage) to Sagamu Inter-change on Section 1 of the project has been finished.
The Minister stated that all efforts will now be concentrated on the remaining work between Otedola Bridge and Berger (in both directions).
