FG Allocates N210 Million for Empowering Chibok Community with Farming Equipment

In a significant move to rejuvenate the Chibok community in Borno, the Federal Government has announced plans to provide farming equipment and skill acquisition accessories valued at N210 million. Mrs Grace Njoku, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Women Affairs, revealed this development in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, shared the government’s intentions during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Chibok community, led by its District Head, Ahmadu Usman. This initiative is aimed at revitalizing the local economy following the 2014 kidnapping incident at Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.

In collaboration with the American University, Yola, the government has agreed that 50% of the funds allocated for the school fees of the kidnapped Chibok girls attending the university will be invested in the community. The funds will be utilized to purchase industrial machines for rice and corn milling, solar pumping machines for irrigation farming, fish grilling machines, sewing machines, and tricycle trucks. These resources are intended to enhance livelihoods and promote socio-economic growth and development in the community.

Dr Asabe Vilita-Bashir, the Director-General of Maryam Babangida National Women Development Centre (MBNCWD), emphasized that this gesture is designed to restore hope within the community. Vilita-Bashir urged active participation from the community to ensure the project’s success and improve living standards.

In response, Ahmadu Usman, the district head of the Chibok community, expressed gratitude to the government for the assistance. He highlighted the potential positive impact of the provided equipment on the community’s economy and the well-being of affected families. The Chibok community affirmed its commitment to putting the resources to good use for the benefit of all.
