Ethiopian Airlines Enters Luxury Market with Launch of VIP Business Jet

Ethiopian Airlines has expanded its aviation portfolio with the launch of its first VIP-configured Boeing 737-800 Business Jet, marking a significant move into the premium charter service market.

Unveiled in mid-March, the 15-year-old jet, now registered as ET-BBH, is specifically tailored for luxury private travel and official government use. Featuring plush lounge-style interiors, high-speed Wi-Fi, and gourmet in-flight dining, the aircraft is designed to offer a seamless blend of exclusivity, convenience, and comfort for Africa’s elite business travelers, diplomats, and high-net-worth individuals.

Speaking on the development, Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, described the move as a strategic leap aimed at elevating the airline’s charter services:

“With the addition of this Boeing 737-800 Business Jet, we are elevating our charter service to new heights, ensuring our customers enjoy unparalleled luxury, convenience, and world-class service.”

The jet will serve dual purposes — transporting Ethiopian government delegations and being available for private charter bookings regionally and internationally. This flexible model mirrors a broader trend in African aviation, where airlines are adapting to tap into the continent’s growing premium travel demand.

This launch signals Ethiopian Airlines’ intent to become a key player in business aviation, positioning itself to support increased connectivity and investment opportunities across Africa. As global business travel rebounds, the airline is poised to meet the needs of a more discerning clientele, while reinforcing its status as one of Africa’s leading carriers.
