The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has refuted allegations that its offices were raided by the Department of State Services (DSS) with the intention of confiscating potentially damaging documents concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his associates.
In a statement issued by the Director of Education and Advocacy Services at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Daniel Okafor, the CCB responded to an online publication by Sahara Reporters on July 7, 2023. The CCB clarified that the report claiming that the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the office of CCB and seized compromising documents related to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his associates, is false.
The statement says that although the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) would have preferred to disregard the article due to its unprofessional nature and the manner in which it was composed, choosing to do so might inadvertently lend some credibility to the false narrative, serving the writers’ objective of misinforming and misleading the public about an event that solely existed in their imaginations.
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) emphatically declares that there was never a raid or search conducted by the Department of State Services (DSS) or any other entity of the Federal Government of Nigeria to locate compromising documents on the president and his associates at the CCB’s head office in Abuja, as well as its offices in various states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The CCB categorically affirms that since the assumption of office by the current government on May 29, 2023, no directive has been received from the Federal Government of Nigeria to conceal any information pertaining to the president and his associates, contrary to what was claimed in the publication.
The statement by the CCB urges the general public to dismiss the article as false news, lacking any truth or evidence. Additionally, the CCB assures the Nigerian people that, as a leading anti-corruption agency, it will continue to fulfill its responsibilities as outlined in paragraph 3 of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
