Dr. Bayero Agabi hosted the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, in a fireside chat at Digital Nigeria 2025. The session, which focused on data sovereignty, formed part of the main event and attracted the largest audience, serving as both the opening segment and the major highlight of the day. The event also featured speeches by the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
The Digital Nigeria International Conference 2025 was widely regarded as a game changer. The three-day event, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, brought together more than 4,800 participants from 12 countries and 25 Nigerian states, including government officials, industry leaders, innovators and investors.
The conference theme, “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future: Accelerating Growth, Inclusion, and Global Competitiveness,” aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic diversification through digitalisation, industrialisation and innovation.
Key highlights included the Vice President’s assertion that Nigeria’s digital economy represents a second chance at global relevance, with the ICT sector contributing 16–18% to national GDP. The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, urged Nigerian youth to lead Africa’s digital transformation, noting the strategic advantage of the country’s young population. The government announced plans to install 4,000 new telecommunications towers, connect 20 million additional Nigerians, and invest in artificial intelligence and data infrastructure. The National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill was also introduced, aimed at establishing a unified legal framework for digital governance, cybersecurity and electronic transactions.
The conference featured 12 keynote sessions, 23 panel discussions, five workshops and two expert masterclasses across five thematic tracks: digital connectivity; digital public infrastructure and trust; artificial intelligence and emerging technologies; digital trade and innovation; and digital skills and literacy.
