At the competition which held at Charlie-Marie Sports Arena, the school beat Muleruwa and Shimawa Community High Schools to emerge winner.
While Charlie-Marie Academy won 23 Gold, 18 Silver and 9 Bronze medals, Charlie-Marie School won 9 Gold, 8 Silver and 8 Bronze to emerge second and Muleruwa Community High School won 8 Gold, 7 Silver and 12 Bronze to emerge third.Charlie-Marie Academy which opened fully in October 2023 with the aim of discovering talents and nurturing them so far have over 50 young underprivileged children undergoing professional trainings.
According to the founder of the academy and Charlie-Marie Group of Schools, Ogun State, Evangelist Adekunbi Akin-Taylor, the idea to build a sports arena came when she took her pupils and students for a sports competition.
“Two years ago, our school -which was also built to touch the lives of less privileged children around Labori-Oloja, Likosi, Ogun State, got invited to a competition in Abeokuta and Ibadan but I discovered that there was no comfortable and affordable place for the children to go and train so the idea came to my mind.
“When I started, I thought that selling one of my properties would finish up the project but we got stuck and started to call people for assistance until I had to sell another of my property.
“I was moved to sell it because the children were anxiously training in the uncompleted field even as they were getting scratches and bruises.”
She said she named the sports festival after her late father because he was a philanthropist and she believes that if he were alive, he would do the same for the community.

“I took after and learnt everything I know about giving from my parents but my father was more of a role model in that area to me,” she added.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Mr Adeolu Esho said he came to support his friend and colleague which is something that comes natural to him.
According to him, it is good to support people who are sacrificing themselves for humanity.“I am always drawn to it. Even if you don’t invite me, I will always find a way to support you. I knew about her school which is almost free tuition which I have always supported and when she told me about the academy I naturally came to support it.“This is a laudable project. It has opened up the community and when the state government gets involved it will be more accessible because this is a good thing that has happened to this community. It is like an individual helping the state to do it’s job and if the state latches on to it, within short time everything that is remaining will be done.“The pavilion is almost complete and I will do all in my power to keep supporting her,” he said.
Asked if he has a message for the government of Ogun State, he said they can come and assist in making the pavilion better.
The Academy Director, Mr Austin Orogun who also spoke to Voiceofnaija.ng said since the academy started last year said from history, superstars are spotted from local areas.
He said many of the athletes that train in the Charlie-Marie Academy Sports Arena are from the local areas and are very hungry to learn.“I have been into athletics for at least 20 years officiating both locally and internationally so I know what I am saying.
“This was also how I spotted the athlete, Ruth Usoro at the National College in Gbagada, Lagos,” he said.
All participants at the sports festival got a certificate of participation while those who performed very well got special gifts from the sponsor.
