ALTON Commends NCC Boss for Regulatory Excellence

Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, has lauded the remarkable leadership of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). He further expressed appreciation for the NCC’s dedication to ensuring high-quality regulation, crediting the thriving state of Nigeria’s telecom industry to the favorable regulatory framework it operates within.

During a meeting at the NCC’s office in Lagos, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of ALTON, praised the administrative skills of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC. Adebayo challenged the notion that engineers lack administrative capabilities and commended Danbatta for his contributions to the telecom industry’s growth.

Danbatta discussed the implementation of the ERAS project and highlighted the collaboration between the NCC and the ICRC, emphasizing the project’s adherence to the DFDDOT model and its execution through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

During a discussion, Danbatta acknowledged the NCC’s efforts in turning the ERAS project into a reality and its alignment with the government’s objective of improving revenue collection and preventing leakages.

The deployment of the Revenue Assurance Solution aims to optimize revenue from licensed telecom service providers and enhance government revenue. Initially focused on telecom operators, the ERAS project has expanded to accommodate their growth and presence in the digital services ecosystem.

In June 2022, the NCC received a presidential approval to expand the project’s scope to include Digital Economy stakeholders. This expansion led to the renaming of the project as the Expanded Revenue Assurance Solution (ERAS).

The implementation of ERAS reflects the NCC’s dedication to promoting transparency, accountability, and financial efficiency in the Nigerian telecom and digital services sectors. By leveraging accurate data and information, ERAS aims to eliminate incorrect calculations, faulty data, and information leaks.

The recognition from the ALTON Chairman and the continuous efforts of the NCC, led by Danbatta, underscore the commitment to establishing a supportive regulatory framework that encourages innovation and sustainable development in the telecom industry. With the ongoing implementation of the Expanded Revenue Assurance Solution, stakeholders in the telecom and digital services sectors eagerly anticipate the positive outcomes it will bring in terms of revenue generation and overall economic growth in Nigeria.
