The World Bank in conjunction with the National Steering Committee of the Agro- Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the appointment of Mr Abdulhamid Umar as ACRESAL National Project Coordinator with effect from February, 2023.
In a press statement by the PA (media and ICT) of the Minister of Environment, Olusegun Shogbola, he states that Mr Umar is expected to provide overall Project Coordination and Guidance, Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation of the $700M Project on Watershed Management, Land Remediation & Restoration and Developing a Community Resilience program across the 19 participating States of Northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement also explains that until his appointment, Mr. Umar served as Director of Operations at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). He led the team that catapulted the digital ID enrolment figures from 7.2 Million in 2017 to a figure well over 96 Million records under his leadership.
Mr Umar was congratulated on his appointment and it is also noted that he is involved in several multilateral financial/funding support projects in Nigeria like UNHCR-UN Women Enrolment Project; South Korea (KOICA) intervention on enrolment support team where he served as chairman. He actively participated in the project identification, preparation and implementation stages of the World Bank funded 433M USD Nigerian ID4D Project.
