Paystack Co-Founder Suspended Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Paystack, a leading Nigerian payments technology company owned by Stripe, has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations of sexual misconduct with a subordinate.

The allegations first emerged on social media on November 12, 2025, triggering widespread online criticism and public outrage.

In response to the scandal, Paystack confirmed it has launched a formal internal investigation and suspended Olubi from all his duties pending the outcome. The company stated it treats such matters with the utmost seriousness.

The controversy deepened when dozens of Olubi’s old tweets, dating back over a decade, resurfaced online. The posts contained sexually explicit remarks, including a reference to wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs and inappropriate comments involving minors. One tweet from 2011 read, “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.” Olubi has since deactivated his X account and has not made any public statement.

This incident has ignited a broader debate about corporate accountability and workplace culture within Nigeria’s tech industry. As one of Africa’s most prominent fintech firms, Paystack’s handling of the investigation is being closely watched and is expected to have significant repercussions across the sector.

Paystack has reiterated its commitment to a safe and respectful work environment and has appointed an independent third-party investigator to ensure a fair and thorough process.
