The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) recorded a significant increase in data protection revenue, rising by 93.6% to N12 billion in 2024 from N6.2 billion in 2023. This was disclosed in the Commission’s 2024 Annual Data Protection Report.
The report also highlighted a substantial rise in job creation within the data protection industry, with 23,000 jobs generated in 2024—an increase of 127% from the 10,123 jobs created in 2023.
Compliance revenue saw a notable boost, reaching N1.5 billion compared to N325 million in 2023. Additionally, the number of verified Data Protection Officers (DPOs) grew from 1,955 in 2023 to 2,888 in 2024.
The Commission further reported that the number of companies filing compliance audit reports increased from 3,451 in 2023 to 4,691 in 2024, reflecting improved adherence to data protection regulations.
Speaking on the report, the National Commissioner of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, commended Nigeria’s progress in safeguarding data subjects’ rights since the establishment of the Commission in 2023.

“The growth trajectory aligns with the developmental priorities of the Federal Government and the strategic blueprint of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. More importantly, it demonstrates our commitment to the implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (NDPSRAP) 2023-2027,” he said.
Dr. Olatunji emphasized that the Commission has been holding data controllers and processors accountable under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), ensuring fair, lawful, and transparent processing of personal data.
He further noted that the enforcement of data protection regulations provides greater security for individuals, stating, “A trader in Ariaria, Gusau, or Balogun markets can now be assured that their personal data will not be used to open a bank account or take a loan without their consent.”
The NDPC’s achievements signal a growing awareness and enforcement of data privacy rights in Nigeria, reinforcing confidence in the country’s digital economy.
