Former Communications Minister Isa Pantami Appointed Co-Chair of AU Innovation Council

The African Union (AU) has appointed former Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, as the Co-chairman of the African Scientific Research and Innovation Council (AU-ASRIC). In this new role, Professor Pantami will be responsible for shaping Africa’s policy and strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), a blueprint set to influence all 54 African nations.

During his tenure as Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), he established the National Centre of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), and later, as Minister, spearheaded Nigeria’s first Digital Economy Policy, with a focus on Digital Society and Emerging Technologies.

Joining Pantami as co-chair is Professor Anicia Nicola Peter from Namibia, a distinguished researcher specializing in Human-Computer Interaction, Social Media, and emerging technologies. The AU-ASRIC council also includes top experts from across the continent, such as Professor Khaleed Ghedira from Tunisia and Professor Maha Grima from Morocco, among others, who will collaborate on initiatives to drive Africa’s scientific and technological advancements.
